New York's 19th Congressional District is a battleground district in 2016. Incumbent Chris Gibson(R), who began serving in Congress in 2011, chose not to seek re-election in 2016, leaving the seat open. Several Republican candidates have formally declared their candidacy at this time: Andrew Heaney, former State Assemblyman John Faso, and Bob Bishop. State Assemblyman Peter Lopezbriefly launched a Republican campaign, but withdrew in early 2016 after his father was diagnosed with cancer. Democratic candidates John Kehoe, Zephyr Teachout, and Will Yandik have also declared candidacy. The primary elections will take place on June 28, 2016. The general election will take place on November 8, 2016.[1][2][3][4][5]
