What's for grassroots to do?

Democracy Spring's object (laid out on its campaign webpage) is "to force [the reform] issue into the heart of the 2016 election narrative and make the election a referendum on whether our democracy should belong to the People as a whole or to the billionaire class alone."

To do this, DemocracySpring is "call[ing] on every member of Congress and candidate for office in America to join citizen equality champions in taking an Equal Voice for All Pledge that commits them to fight for pro-democracy reform."

This week DemSpringers are marching to Washington DC for a sit-in civil disobedience action which will start on Monday, April 11, and last for a week. This action will "[lay] out a simple choice to Congress: either pass bills to make the 2016 elections free and fair for for all people as equal citizens, or be prepared to send us and thousands of patriotic Americans who join us from all across the country to jail simply for demanding an equal voice."

Democracy Spring does not expect an immediate response. ("Given the current makeup of Congress, immediate reform is extremely unlikely.")

Democracy Spring's FAQ webpage gives this additional information:,
The Equal Voice for All Pledge calls on current members of Congress and candidates for public office at any level of government — from President to City Council — to commit to fight for reform to save our democracy and ensure political equality. The Pledge is a tool to establish public commitments from elected officials or candidates that can be used to demonstrate the breadth of support for reform, educate voters about what candidates to support, and hold candidates-elect accountable to honor their commitment by fighting to pass reform.
The Equal Voice for All Pledge reads:
"I PLEDGE TO FIGHT TO ENSURE THAT OUR GOVERNMENT IS FREE FROM THE CORRUPTING INFLUENCE OF BIG MONEY IN POLITICS AND SOLELY DEPENDENT UPON THE PEOPLE AS EQUAL CITIZENS, BY SUPPORTING PRO-DEMOCRACY REFORMS INCLUDING VOTING RIGHTS PROTECTIONS, ANTI-CORRUPTION MEASURES, CITIZEN-FUNDED ELECTIONS, AND A CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT TO OVERTURN CITIZENS UNITED."
The FAQ webpage then says "at present, no members of Congress or candidates have yet been asked to take the pledge. In the next several weeks, we will begin outreach to elected officials and candidates by directing them to www.equalvoiceforallpledge.org."

Since November, this grassroot has been attempting "outreach" to Congressional candidates and "outreach" to citizens nationwide to get them to participate in "outreach" to Congressional candidates.

This grassroot is interested in learning about the ideas and efforts of DemSpring and other grassroots for accomplishing outreach to Congressional candidates in the coming weeks (and months).

Please tweet, email or FB about this.

Thanks.
